This is a scan of a letter I got from Dr. Richard Rankin, the Vice President for Student Life (top cop on campus). Sad that such a quaint, well-thought of school has such an ass in administration.

During my senior year @ SNC, I was dating a woman who happened to have Dr. Rankin as her faculty advisor (every student has one, usually a professor in the student's area of study - she was considered 'lucky' that she had such an advisor, as he normally didn't take on student advisees). One evening, she and I went to a local grocery store and were shopping when we randomly ran into Rankin. He didn't really acknowledge me, apart from a diminutive glance, and he immediately questioned my girlfriend Ashley, "What are you doing with this guy?"

The grocery store incident, as well as the following letter gives a glimpse into the personality of this dominating figure, who portrays himself as a friend of, and advocate to students. So long as you behave within the confines as what he feels is appropriate behavior, that is. Cross his line, and feel the wrath as I did whilst a student at his small, liberal arts school in the midwest.

The background to this letter is this; just a few months prior to graduation, while I was walking home from a party, someone set off an emergency beacon in a parking lot near us. As I had already had a history with the campus safety organization (when they searched and raided my dorm room a year prior, finding a small amount of contraband cannabis and subsequently dismissing me for a semester), I knew it was in my interest to leave the area, post-haste. Well, they chased me when I was near my house, and ended up accusing me of setting the alarm off, and saying they had it on video (which I pleaded to see as I didn't set off that thing, and video would've cleared me. Alas, they had no video, it was yet another ploy by these people to try and coerce me to admit something I didn't do.) Thankfully the head of the safety organization (Wayne) was a decent and honorable man. The best part is that when the head of safety admitted they had no incriminating evidence against me and that I should be 'freed' and given a '2nd chance', Mr. Rankin's response is that he is, "not sure you deserve this". What an utter prick!

dick2.gif indeed
Dick Rankin - supreme asshole

But my favorite line of all is his Ahnuld Schvarzenneggar-like threat, that "if there's more trouble..you will be the loser." Now that's an advocate I could've done without.
PS. - Have a good semester! :)

or, in other words: PS. - FUCK YOU! (douchebag)

RE: 2nd chance

Dear Jim:

Via the letter from Wayne, I see he decided to proceed with
another chance. I'm not sure you deserve this, but Wayne made
the decision.

On to the drunkenness, since you stated you were very drunk that
night. I think it's time to get your act together. You have had
substance abuse problems and alcohol problems. Now it is time to
get yourself on task. Being drunk is no longer an excuse for a
"22" senior. The real world is bellowing and you need
to get prepared. You may wish to seek the counseling services of
Dr. Jack Willamsen or another to help with this. Please be assured, if there is trouble (with alcohol or drugs), you will be
the loser.

Have a good semester.

P.S. As mentioned by Wayne, pass the word around about the fine, etc.
for Code Blue. This isn't a play thing - it's for safety reasons
as you realize.

Sincerely,
[signed Dr. Dick Rankin]

Dr. Rankin - why the need to be such a prick? Sunshine is the best disinfectant, it is in that sentiment that I expose your true nature, one that you do well at disguising. Trust me, I've met plenty of assholes in my life, and this Rankin character is one of the premier.
